Something isn't right if it takes awhile to start. Is the ticking coming from the engine or from the belt area? How is your oil level?

A ticking noise is either a lifter/valve issue in the motor, or it could be an exhaust leak. Have a local mechanic inspect it for you to resolve the issue.

A friend of mine chanfed the oil and filter and its has really improved its still ticks a lil but going to give it a proper clean out

these cars are NOtT equipped not hydraulic lash adjusters they are solid like motorcycle bucket style and valve lash will need to be measured and brought into spec if they are off. You will replace the entire tappet should the clearance be incorrect. this is NOT a DIY task. It requires a thorough understanding of the engine and a proper feel for clearances using feeler guages. to within a hundreth of a MM.
