Check engine light came on while driving,
after just 2 miles, and stayed on even after
restarting. What could cause it or what do I
check as a possible cause, without going
to chevrolet dealer.

You go to Auto Zone to get the code, or codes read, then you can post the code back here for further assistance. They have a scanner that can be used for free.

It is really hard to say what is causing the light to come on because so many things are connected to it so the best thing to do is take your vehicle to a parts store auto zone who will check the codes for free and tell you exactly what is causing the light to come on.
