jag x-type 2.0 engine block came on after several days of 9 degree temperature do i need a new engine

no prior warning. started car up after a week of sitting in cold weather

Do you mean the yellow check engine light? If so, you need to have the engine computer scanned for fault codes. Some auto parts stores will do this for free. Check around.
