how to reset the instrument cluster needles on a 2005 chevy ssr

Asked by migration_rljay Mar 19, 2014 at 10:37 PM about the 2005 Chevrolet SSR

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

a friend of mine took the instrument cluster out of his 2005 chevy ssr to replace the needles on it. when he took the old needles off he forgot to mark where the old needles were set so the new needles could be reset back to the same place the old needles were set before he took them off. since he doesn't know where the old needles were set  is there anything he can do now that the new needles have been put on so all the needles will read right.

I would fill the tank so the fuel gauge can be set at the full mark, obviously place the tach and speedo needles at their lowest point when the car is off, the temp gauge you need to start the car let it get to normal oppertaion temp the set the needle in its normal position. Thats what i would do.

When you start it up, the needles should swing through their normal range of motion, you will probably need to do some trial and error to check them to see if they are in the correct location.

you can rotate them to the stopping point CC CCW and then a little past to acheive the desired reading when key is on. it will be trial and error at this point.
