Check to see if your water pump is functioning correctly to do this pain the bottom hose on your radiator that goes into the block place your hand around it and squeeze it then have someone give the car some gas you should feel the pressure in the hose try to push your hand open. Also is your heater working. Feel in the passenger side floorboard and see if anything feels damp if so your heater core may have a leak or a clogged. And last but not least cooling systems can get air in them and cause an overheating situation. There should be a bleeder valve on your coolant system start the car let it get warm open the bleeder valve and bleed the air out you should hear air come out and then coolant should stay squirting out consistently without air when you are done this process can take 30 or 45 minutes and you will have to keep adding water to the radiator. And actually the worst case scenario is probably going to be a head gasket situation. Love to see if you have oil in your water or water in your oil? Hope this is of some help
