Question type: Maintenance & Repair

V6 3800 series 3 engine. No warning when the car stalled. No codes were displayed when we checked. It is getting gas.(We can smell gas) In the past month, I have had an issue with it starting at times. But I put the pedal to the floor and it starts and stays running. I currently have a power steering leak that i need to fix. Is it possible that the car is now out of timimg due to power steering leak or something

No spark would most likely be crank sensor bad, but should not get fuel cranking due to fuel shut off from no crank signal. When you turn the key on, the fuel relay turns on the fuel pump for a short time to prime the system, then if it gets a reading from the crank sensor telling it the engine is spinning, it continues to fuel. If the crank signal isn't happening, fuel shuts off. Not sure if the 07 has a cam sensor also, if so it might be triggering the fueling.

if crank sensor is bad, wouldnt that trigger a code on a dignostic tool.

Normally, yes, 'however'...depending on how it failed. The computer needs to see the crank signal to know your trying to start the engine, but if it isn't sending it the computer thinks its just sitting there and wont know the sensor is bad. This happens more often than most realize.
