headlights on, exterior lights don't blink

Asked by Oct 23, 2016 at 01:11 PM about the 1971 Pontiac Le Mans

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

1971 Pontiac Lemans 350. With headlights off, all
lights and turn signals work. Headlights on, no
turn signals work. When right turn signal on, I hear
clicking from the dash, but no exterior blinking and
left tail light is out. When left turn signal on, no
blinking or clicking or anything.

Check all of your lights grounds and sockets, on a rig this old rust and corrosion plays a big factor in circuit failures.

If you have an aftermarket stereo, check the ground straps. The instrument cluster was originally grounded through the radio ground straps. HTH. -Jim

You may have a bad turn signal sending unit.
