looking for trans to fit pontiac 400ci.aprox 1978. is there numbers on the trans to look for?

there are few different trannys to choose from ,muncie m-20 m-21 m-22 , t-10 ,super t-10, tremec 5 & 6 speeds. what kind of car is this ? was this car originally manual trans?
