what can I do?

If you're talking about the ignition timing you can adjust it by moving the distributor BUT if it's more than a few degrees off, you haven't tried adjusting it recently, it's a high mileage engine, you're experiencing late transmission shifts, and it's running hot (possibly boiling over when you shut it off) the timing chain has jumped. You'll have to replace the timing chain and sprockets. HTH. -Jim
