im curious as to what the biggest engine that would fit into a 2nd gen firebird would be?
I'm looking at a second generation Pontiac Firebird that has no engine or transmission
and would like to make it as fast as possible, naturally. I'm curious as to what the biggest
engine that would fit in it would be?
Assuming you mean Pontiac blocks - a 455 will fit. But that's not necessarily the best choice. All Pontiac engines are very close in size, and most used the same engine mounts with minor variations. With todays crappy gas you want a fairly high revving engine and extra gears. Start with a bare block, bore it .030 over, find a set of mid-70's heads, go with moderate compression, nothing higher than 9.5:1. I'm partial to the 700R trans but you can find plenty of manuals that will bolt up the Pontiac bellhousing.
