just got an 06 cobalt. my check engine light came on, took it to advance auto parts to see whats wrong with it, they told me it was a knock sensor. than that same day the check engine light went off and hasnt been on since. should i still take it to a garage to get checked out? or was something maybe just knocked loose while driving that its fine now? how serious of a problem is a knock sensor?

A knock sensor retards the timing when the engine is knocking. Even if you can not hear the knocks, they are doing damage to the engine. The sensor may be on it's way out or perhaps it was a loose connector. I would clean and coat the electrical connector with dielectric grease.

it could be your gas cap be sure that it is tight or replace with another if that happens again and drive 50 to 100 miles and the light should go off
