My 86 Nissan 300zx will start if I jump it. But once I turn the headlights on it dies. What can it be besides my alternator? Is there a disable link somewhere?

Don't think so, sounds like the alternator output is very low, could be the internal voltage regulator in the alternator, get the battery checked, recharge or replace it if bad then have the charging system tested for output amperage and voltage.
