jetta won't idle down

Jetta won't idle less than 2000rpm, try to put it in gear and it slams into gear with foot on break, still only comes down to about 1000 rpm. wonderful car don't want to get rid of it.

Check for vacuum leaks, but I think it might be a dirty throttle body hanging up your idle. Remove the air hose from the air filter to the throttle body and spray some throttle body cleaner into the opening cleaning off the throttle plate or carbon. Also look at the idle valve, clean that too, if you still have an issue, replacement of those parts might help.
