My 71 Beetle will not start and I have tried everything... I think :)

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I just bought a 71 Beetle that had been in storage for several years. I drove it about 5 miles before I filled the
tank with gas. (It was almost empty) Then about 5 miles after I filled up the gas tank white smoke came out the
engine and it died. It will not start anymore. It turns over nice but will not start. I put a new fuel pump in it, took off
the carburetor, cleaned it, added an in line fuel filter, checked the point, took out the spark pugs and they all look
good and all have good spark, I checked the compression and two of them were 65, one was 45 and I could not
get the tester to thread into the 4th one. Even when I push the car down a hill and pop the clutch, it will not start. I
am stumped! Please help :)
