Hi,
There is a number behind the spare tire inbedded in the metal like 911 904, is that the chassie number.
My volks is a '54, do you think my volks is with-in the one millionth made in Germany. thanks                            54champ

that is the body number. are you sure it starts with 9xx?? look again and see if it's not a 8xx. somewhere around the 630-680 body numbers started the 1955 model year. it's not uncommon to find a 1955 body on a 1954 pan, exspecially if your car is a late in the year 1954.
