What's wrong with our 1988 Jeep Cherokee?

Asked by Jan 22, 2015 at 09:26 PM about the 1988 Jeep Comanche

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

It feels like our jeep's all four wheels are going to fall off, out of nowhere, terribly violent. It
has happened 3 or 4 times yet when we took it to the shop, twice, they've found nothing
wrong.

It's called a "death wobble" usually motorcyclists feel it but a lot fo 4X4's get it too, it is caused by out of round tires and just normal wear and tear on the front end, you can install a shimmy shock on the front end and it will help, then replace the tires, but the only true way to get rid of it is completely rebuild the front end including all of the steering components.
