Might buy an '87 Wagoneer, but a few questions first

Asked by Oct 22, 2015 at 08:58 PM about the 1987 Jeep Grand Wagoneer

Question type: Shopping & Pricing

First off, the price is $6900, which seems super high after reading around on
here. Especially considering it doesn't have carpet and the seats are in
rough shape. Exterior seems to be great except for the hood (see attached

1. Is it possible/affordable to replace carpeting and upholstery in an older
car like this?
2. Given the interior's condition, what's a fair price? Seems like under $3k at
3. If I'm talking to a mechanic, what are some common things to check their
condition? Motor and trans have been rebuilt <20k miles ago. So I'm thinking frame, body and gas tank shield rust. Anything other biggies?

$6900? I'd say its worth $690, probably a typo. A clean example is $1600, sounds like the seller is trying to recoup their money on the drivetrain rebuild.
