Not sure either tranny or some sensor

Asked by Eddboyy69 Sep 12, 2020 at 03:16 PM about the 1999 Volvo S80

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My 99 Volvo was really sluggish when I got it
an a few months into owning it sometimes it
will not accelerate or rev. It will idle forward or
backwards but it won’t go  like my pedal isn’t
doing anything when I press it. Unplugged TV
e mass airflow sensor and i feel like it has its
original power but it makes some nasty metal
noises when I accelerate or when it shifts but
it’s not jerky or a tough shift just noisy

First thing you need to do is find someone with VIDA and DiCE (or a code reader capable of reading Volvo-specific codes) to read the codes. It sounds like you're having issues with your ETM (electronic throttle module/throttle body) but the grinding noises you describe seem to be unrelated. If it ran better with the MAF sensor disconnected, then it could potentially be the problem, as MAF failure can mimic ETM failure on these cars. However to further diagnose anything, you really need to know what codes are present.
