Timing belt out of sync

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Hello all. My timing belt on my 2001 s40 blew just under two years ago and I had it
replaced costing my close to $4000. My car didn't start this morning and I had it towed
nearby to a different mechanic who said that my timing belt was out of sync. He said it
would be hard to see the amount of damage until he opened things up, which would cost
at least $550 to do. Curious what everyone thinks about what kind of responsibility if any
my original mechanic has. Thanks everyone.

If your car has been running fine for the last 2 years since the timing belt was changed, that's probably not what's keeping the engine from starting. Try jump starting it and get your battery, alternator, and starter tested.

Thanks Dorian. It wouldn't jump start. I had the car towed this morning to the original mechanic who replaced the timing belt two years ago. I'll be curious to hear what he says. I guess I'm just surprised that after spending $4000 two years ago I'm back to yet another timing belt problem.i thought I was passed that.
