car won't accelerate

my 1999 vw passat will only accelerate to around 1700 rpms then it dies to an
idle and then goes back up to 1700 and dies again like clock work.  Idles fine
and steady.  had an engine code, replaced the throttle body and cleaned the
MAF sensor.

Have you replaced the fuel filter?All so check fuel pressure could be fuel pump going bad.
