As posted Engine Coolant Temperature sensor.with the advent of OBD2 technology,it was decided that a universal code or name for components would be used,many manufacturers used their own nomenclature for stuff,and if you were not familiar with certain makes of cars a lot of time could be spent trying to find components under a different name but performed basically the same function.It definitely makes it a lot easier when you need to look up specifications or use a wiring diagram.
