I have a 2002 Cabrio 5 speed and there is a lot of play in the shifter

the are several plastic parts under the shifter boot that wear , this is noticeable when you move the shifter "and play with it " without selecting a gear . But , if you are having problems selecting a Gear , or in gear it has a lot of play . There is a soft plastic "ball" in the engine bay under near the exhaust that wears...
