If the vehicle bucks when you turn sharply right or left the transfer case's viscous coupler has locked up, if it don't buck then the transfer case has lost lube, possible an internal pump failure, either way the transfer case is going to have to be removed to get repaired.

Transfer case =/= transaxle. Your diff pin is about ready to launch or something else is causing the gearbox to whine such as metal flakes.
