1997 Jaguar XK8 problem with amber engine light on
I just put my Jag on the road after a lengthy 10 months stint in the garage at home.
After charging the battery, it started straight away and I drove it with no problems for
about 10 miles, stopping at least twice and turning off the engine. Each time the car
restarted up fine. I get home and leave it for about 5 mins with the engine off before
trying to put it back in the garage. This time when trying to restart, the engine light
came on "Check Engine" and would not start? The car engine turns over but will not
Any ideas before i have to tow it to a Jag shop tomorrow?
By the way - the Jaguar relating to the question above is a 1997 XK8
First thing to do is scan the computer for trouble codes and post them here. If that's not possible turn the ignition on but don't try to start it. Listen for the fuel pump. It should run a few seconds. If you don't hear it, get a hammer and hit the bottom center of the gas tank 2 or 3 times. If it starts it's the fuel pump. This will sometimes get a dying fuel pump going enough to avoid the tow charge. If it still won't start spray a little (2 short bursts) starting fluid down the throttle body. It should run a few seconds on the starting fluid. If not, it's an ignition problem (no spark). HTH. -Jim
