My Jaguar shorts oil and it sends out a white smoke if I raise the engine to 4 or 5 rev. What maybe the cause of it? Was contemplating on changing the rings of the engine. or maybe buy a new engine.

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Its a used car I just bought. Its a sports version. I top oil every time the car spits the white
vapor or gas. Have smelt the smoke and its a mixture or water vapor and little gas. Its a 3
liter  engine and a manual transmission. Every other thing is ok. Also the maintenance
light is always on including the ABS light.

The smoke is white? Blue smoke is better indicator of oil passing the rings. (A compression test which is easy to do with the tester would answer that). Check the cars coolant level. It sounds like at high engine (& water pump)speeds you 're having a head gasket leak causing the steam water vapour. It's coolant getting into the cylinders. If you're smelling fuel it could be an entirely different issue or a result of the coolant preventing proper burns of the fuel. Hopefully I've given you a start to your trouble shooting.

before can jump to any conclusion, diagnosing should get the engine codes from a code reader, auto zone or pep boys will check your codes for free.
