My 1985 E-350 is hard to start after I have driven it a short distance. I have reset the timiing and it still does it. Any ideas what I should try?

I also had that problem on my 85 e350 with 460, turned out the starter was not disengaging once started so the starter was over heating, replaced and it fixed the problem. the hard start i had was it almost felt like a weak battery, slow cranking and then i would let it sit or pour water on the starter and then it would start
