1990 Ford e250 Camper Van - Leak at Front Doors
This sweet van is new to us, and not until taking it out for a weekend trip
did we notice these leaks.
Water seems to be getting in at the front of the driver's AND passenger's
front doors. We noticed that there is a metal gutter (about 1" wide/tall) that
runs the length of the van on either side that stops about 4 inches above
the hinge side of the door. It seems to be ushering the water right on in,
soaking the carpet at the step on the inside.
We threw up some more weatherstripping on the inside along the edge of
the door up top and down the front side, but it doesn't seem to have
worked (we're in NC right now, and apparently having a "500 year
storm"...talk about a true test)
Question: Is there supposed to be something filling this gutter that's just not
there anymore? Any other suggestions on how to reroute this water thats
getting in along the hinge side?
Just some suggestions, it looks like the weather strip looks good but don't know, look for cracks, flat indentations anything to make a void, possible to adjust the doors a bit to close tighter. All else fails stop a dealer when you have the time, I'm sure they could get it to stop leaking, new weather strips, & adjust the door. It may need new door hinge pins if the doors have up & down play in them.
See the indentation on the door weatherstrip just above the curve? That is a channel for water as you can see by the little rust spot on the door sill right on the body seam. That strip should be replaced or put some foam type weather stripping on the body right along the edge of the door opening. I have used some that clear Flex Seal and a sponge brush and filled any body seams that looked cracked and along gutter rails but you have to work fast with that stuff. HTH
