My van will not start but cranks fine
Asked by RTBBilly Mar 19, 2017 at 12:33 AM about the 1995 Ford E-150
Question type: Maintenance & Repair
So here is the problem, my van was running "OK" until it started having
starting issues when the engine was hot, it would stall and refuse to start for
sometimes hours (mostly just a few minutes), and now it does not start at all.
i thought maybe the fuel pump or fuel injectors, but no help there, and then i
replaced the distributor and its cap and the coil, ignition rotor, spark plug
wires and spark plugs, frown no help still won't start, so i checked the spark,
and until recently it had a blue spark, i also checked fuel pressure and its
fine, my best guess is the "brain" but i figured i'd try this first. thanks in
advance. -RTBBilly

how hot does it get ?, it should reach operating temp. and stay there , if you have good spark and the tbi injector is firing and spraying fuel then you may have a weak spark or high/low fuel pressure ,

well it gets to running temperature and then after maybe 5 Miles it would stall, after that it would be about 10-20 minutes before it would restart. now originally it had spark (after it stopped running all together) but now i'm not sure why it stopped and it always had/has fuel pressure, i just don't think the injectors are opening because i did try "sure start" and other brands or engine starting fluid but it kind of acted like no spark even though at the time it had spark, as for spark the only thing i changed was the cable ends and distributor and that was only because i heard that the pickup coil controls the fuel inlet (not true i guess) so if you can think of some more information thanks in advance -RTBBilly and because i neglected to do so yesterday i got a parts list of things i replaced, fuel pump, fuel injectors(all 6 of them), lower air intake gasket, throttle body gasket, spark plugs (all 6 of them), ignition coil, distributor, distributor cap, ignition rotor, fuel filter, mass air flow sensor, fuel pump wire clip,

checking for codes sure couldn't hurt , not sure how on a 95 ford though ,you need to check spark and fuel when the problem occurs , that old a vehicle I don't think spark would be the problem but I can't tell from here , if you want a shot in the dark what I did with a PITA ford from that era was rig a hose on the fuel rail nipple and purge the fuel pressure catching any fuel so not to start fires then the thing would fire up , at that point I figured it was a bad fuel regulator and after replacing that the intermittent problem was gone , that one truck had people scratching their head bald over that problem .

i have tried reading the codes but its says: kwp2000 as the first code and iso9141 as the second and it finishes with a read error. also i did try the method of starting it that you referred to above about the fuel line pressure valve but it didn't change my results any.

it may need a new computer ,"brain" , you'll have to research the codes for that plus the ones that came up .good luck let us know what happens

same results i came to (frown) however thanks for the try buddy, i will in fact order the computer and weather it works or not, i will get back to you guys, estimated time before i can order the brain is 2-3 months. (not a priority) and i have other cars to fix. (please refer to the nissan sentra forum) thanks for all your work and i will get back to you guys (smile face)

i have a 93 ford econoline it cranks over but wont start i checked the fuel pressure i have none then checked spark and no spark.. also what i noticed the dummy check engine light wont co,e on when turning key to on position. All fuses and relays are good it has an alarm system but alarm system doesnt have any fuses and its not hooked up. help.

I think the check engine icon on the dash should be there with key on/engine off , to have no fuel pressure OR spark is a bit of a coincidence , you said you were getting a new ECM (brain) if you don't mind spending the $$ it would be something to eliminate . It's an old ford .When weird s**t starts to happen it points toward the ECM . Let us know . Also , sitting around the gas can go bad , you said there's no fuel pressure but a can of octane booster wouldn't hurt .
