Ford van E350 gear stuck in PARK!

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 1998 Ford E350.
Today after attempting to fix the
break lights that weren't turning on, I
tried to drive my van and it would not
let me gear out of Park. I researched
about it and found out it could be the
break light switch (the one by the
break pedal). I bought a brand new
one and it still won't allow me to shift
out of Park. All the fuses look good,
but my break lights aren't working.
Please help

There is a lock-out function to keep the lever from shifting unless you step on the brakes- did you mess around with this?

Yes, I did mess around with the sensor by the pedal. That's when I got my break light to work earlier

Right after I messed with it, my shifter locked in place, and my break lights went out. I did change that pedal sensor with a new one, but it still didn't work. Someone told me about fuses under the hood, could that be it?

Put your foot on the brake and then slightly turn the ignition key as you're trying to shift if shifter moves at some point put it in neutral and start the vehicle I have been doing this for a week now until I can get the ignition replaced.
