Why do I suddenly have dim red lights when I put truck in reverse?

Asked by Jul 03, 2017 at 07:14 AM about the 1995 Dodge Ram 1500

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

When I use the turn signal, both rear lamps and license lamp will flash, the
tail lamps are very dim.  If I turn on park and/or headlamps, I have no lights
in back.  If I step on brake pedal, I have no lights in back.  When I put truck
in reverse, I only get dim red lights in back (unless park/headlamps are on).
If hazard switch is on, it is the same as turn signal but at least will flash with
headlamps on and brake pedal used.  I have checked for broken wires and
bad fuses and found nothing obvious.  Front indicator lamps work properly.
What is wrong with my tail lights?
