I have the 96 Ram 1500 5.9. Sometimes I have to start in neutral instead of park. It's sometimes hard to engage the gears in it. I also have to keep replacing universal joints in it. Ican't tow now

sounds like a few things possible neutral safety witch and or shift lever is coroded on the transmission iself, depending on condition could also be the shifter cable itself.... assuming your having problems with the front axle u joints, the u joint must be centered perfectly and make sure to use grease-able ones, grease upon installation and check every 3k

thanks Chris, I will tell the guy that's been trying to help me figure out what the deal is on this " Rodeo" ... I have to figure out what's wrong with it. I gotta get back being able to tow my horse trailer.

another thing to look at is the linkage lever that is on trans. Where cable hooks to lever, disconnect it and see if there is any PLAY in the lever. They sometimes crack and get slop in them.
