Question type: Car Customization

i have a 96 ram 1500 with an automatic trans, i just bought another 96 with a blown 318 and the 5 speed trans, i bought the truck for the lift kit it has so i can put it my truck, but i also decided i would like to have a standard transmission in my truck, are there any specific things i need to take off the truck with the standard to make it work right in my truck? i know i need the clutch, and the pedal(s), the steering column, what about the flywheel? starter?

your gonna need a different flywheel, and a completely new wiring harness its more work than converting your 1500 to a 3500 haha, it seems like every thing should just bolt up but it wont because the manual transmission cools differently than the automatic, instead of switching transmissions, why dont you put the engine in your truck into the truck you just bought it'll be a million times easier because the 318 and 360 bolt up the same and last time i remembered they have the same wiring harness

and see thats what i thought about doing, just swaping motors, cuz ive done that only a million times, but the truck i just bought is way beat up, its only a regular cab, mine is pretty straight, and an extended cab, so id prefer to have the better looking bigger truck, but thanks for the advise

if your truck has a 360 you'll need a flywheel from a 360, 318's are internally balanced and 360s are external so the one on the 318 won't work. You'll probably the harness from the donor truck too, simply for the sensors on the tranny, and maybe the crossmember too. The PCM from the other truck should run yours but it will probably run lean. All in all it's not really that hard of a swap, the cooling isn't an issue, just plug the factor cooler in the rad

oh well thats retarded, im glad i havnt started the swap, obviously i have everything to do it, but the flywheel, and i just threw one away whe i went and repoed my white one, but yeah mine has the 360 and the donor has the 318, thats just my luck too, get all these great ideas and then something has to fuck them up haha, thaks for the advise though

Take and find the neutral safety switch plug underneath truck close to where main trans plug is in wiring harness .It's a 3 wire plug cut the middle wire of neutral safety switch bare it and ground it to frame s (starter will trurn) And after you change crank sensor You will probably have to change main wiring harness computer on passenger side of truck on fire wall preferably the one from same truck of transmission
