Question type: Car Customization

ive got a 96 half ton dodge ram, its got a 3" body lift and 35's, still has stock suspension, my question is are there any specific ways to go about putting one ton running gear and suspension under a half ton, i work for my dad and we use my truck ALOT! the stock 1500 springs are getting wore out and becoming weaker everytime i load my truck, so i want to just upgrade my suspension and preferably run some tougher runnung gear with out going and buying a new truck when i have everything to do this in my back yard

any suggestions?

i did it. you have to move all the leaf spring mounting brackets, you have to swap out the stock front dana 44 for a dana 60 and the rear dana 60 for a dana 80HD. its gonna take about 3 days depending on how mechanically gifted you are. but a 1500 frame and a 3500 frame are very very different so keep that in mind once you go about towing and hauling 3500 sized loads. the front end conversion is a little tricky as well because the shock/spring mounts on the dana 60 are out farther than the 44, your gonna have to do some cutting and measuring for those areas, also your gonna have to use different tie rods for the steering. honestly it was a very very complicated job and not some thing i recommend doing, id just go find a cheap 3500.

ok, thanks for the info, i know its more or less easier to just buy the bigger truck, but as ive mentioned in my profile im not too big of a dodge fan, the reason i have this one is cuz i was just out of high school and got a new job and didnt have a vehicle, and im sure everyone has an idea of how much it sucks walking to work and back, granted i had it easy but my uncle had this truck for sale and i had the extra money so i bought it, lifted it put some big ol tires on and then got a new job, after about a month a "so called friend" of mine wanted the truck really bad, so i sold it to him in 2008, last winter sometime dustin called my dad up and said for him to come get the dodge cuz he couldnt drive it no more, so he was just gonna have my dad scrap it, he said the trani went out. now keep in mind this guys a complete idiot when it comes to vehicles, anyway a buddy and i went to dustins place to get the dodge and bring it home, when i showed i was kinda pissed at the condition the truck was in, but i should have known it wasnt gonna be pretty, dustins really hard on things, but i climbed in and started it to let it warm up so i could move it on to the trailer, nd it turned out that the trani was just fine, all the truck needed was new tires and a passenger side wheel bearing, so i got everything ordered to fix it and make it driveable, so i now im back to driving my old truck, and with me working for my dad and all it just needs to be beefed up to handle the heavy duty work, and i was also thinking about putting a cummins in it too, but its still just a thought in the back of my mind
