Try a different battery. I have only witnessed that happening when the battery is flat dead. I just went through the same scenario with my dads Yukon. He said it was dead so I put a battery charger on it with the 50 amp engine start option. When I flicked the button to 50 amp boost, the gauges went all haywire. He thought the whole electrical system got fried. I told him to change out the battery and problem solved.
