The injection pump is on the drivers side of the block at the front of the motor closest to the radiator. you will see the fuel lines coming off the pump but if your planning on doing the pump yourself you have to be careful of the alignment key (just like you have on a crank pully so the pully, or in this case gear, does not spin on the shaft) that it does not drop down into the oil pan and they are a pain to get lined back up. you have to also make sure you discharge the fuel lines of any fuel in them before you start disconnecting lines because of the very high fuel pressure that is in a non common rail diesel engine. any more questions about it just let me know i own one and im diesel certified through dodge and cummins.

how do I line it up and no matter what I do it seems to blow out a lot of smoke. thanks will wait for reply

To line it up you have to first time the motor or essentially get the key way to point to 12 o clock. and you have 4 bolts holding the pump on and 1 bolt on a support bracket on the firewall side of the pump that you have to take out. you will need a special puller to get the gear off of the pump which you may be able to purchase at napa or i know snap on has it. as far as the black smoke on a diesel the more fuel you put into the motor the more smoke. basically it is raw fuel that is being dumped out. not a bad thing on a diesel...

smoke can be a blessing or a curse on a diesel depending what color it is boss
