TV cable adjustment dodge ram

Asked by Aug 24, 2015 at 02:18 AM about the 2001 Dodge Ram 1500

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

So ive been having some shifting
issues in my 01 dodge ram 1500 5.9
Opened the hood and noticed all my
throttle cables had generous
amounts of play in them. I went to
adjust the tv cable, starting pushing
it outward of the housing to tighten it
but once i get it to the desired length
the back of the housing pops out
and the spring and all that shit
comes out of it. How come the older
jeeps are able to freely move the
cable back and forth but the dodge
can onlt go so far until the piece
dissasembles. Its very aggravating.
Because the clip to lock it in wont go
back in unless i push all the
hardware into place and give it to
much slack? Im also stumped on
how to tighten the cable that runs
straight to the gas pedal. I bought
new cables btw and they are giving
me this issue. Its not very fun having
your truck shift to third only by hitting
2500 rpms. If i dont hit 2500 it will
stay in gear and slowly rev down.
Help me please!

The proper way to adjust is to use pressure gauges attached to the trans. I'd have a trans shop set it up for you, you don't want to burn up the trans with an improper adjusted cable.
