What and where do I find G4 antifreeze?

Asked by Jan 08, 2014 at 09:14 PM about the 2002 Dodge Ram 1500

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My truck froze up the other morning, thankfully able to get it off the rd and into a mechanics shop. We thought it was the heater core, no heat at all. Thankfully that it was just the wrong coolant(from advanced auto) . he flushed it and replaced the antifreeze. I have heat now. $85 fix that could have been $1000. Btw- it was 10 deg out . brrrr

Why do you want G4? Castrol makes G4 for sale in the US but I believe your truck needs HOAT coolant. Your owner's manual will specify what's needed and it's a good idea to do exactly that. The Mopar HOAT coolant is the best, or Zerex GOS. If you have to use something else make sure it is the long-lasting variety, and make sure the label says it is compatible with HOAT coolants. BTW HOAT - Hybrid Organic Additive Technology, I believe it is a proprietary Mopar product.

Zerex G-05 found at some of the better auto parts stores.

Thank you- I had to buy a manual from Autozone and found exactly what I needed. I am going to the shop to see what the mechanic put in. My truck is running a lot better. Thanks again guys!
