Alarm system.

Asked by Feb 18, 2018 at 11:49 AM about the 2003 Dodge Ram 1500

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My alarm system has never worked as long as I
owned the Truck. The previous Owner has lost the
Factory keys. Out of the blue the alarm started
going off and now I can’t start my truck. I don’t
have the Factory key, how can I start my truck with
out spending $100’s for a new key.

You might be stuck with that, but try this: if the alarm is sounding from the inside make sure all the doors are closed, now manually lock them from the inside except the drivers door, exit the vehicle and use the key and manually lock the drivers door, if this was successful the alarm should stop, if it did wait at least 1 minuet and then using the same key unlock the drivers door and see if it will fire up and run, if it does your good to go, if it failed then your stuck with the dealer or very good locksmith, a locksmith will be cheaper than the dealer but not all locksmiths have the equipment to do the programming. how old is the truck? does the key fob have a battery or is it a regular key? if its a late 90s to late 2000s and has a regular key then the original key is somewhere in the truck. possibly taped under the dash...witha dead battery.

a friend who has a few company cars would make multiple cheap regular keys for drivers and tape the factory key under the dash to activate the ignition system. saved him big time.
