Pay $85-100 and have it evacuated, checked for leaks 30mm of vacuum ...and filled with the correct oil PAG,# and amount. Then filled to the correct weight ONLY proper way, of refrigerant 134A. That's what I suggest.. Regards

Tom, I took it to a local garage and they checked it. I am not sure how how they checked it.

I have had it checked for leaks. I was told there is none. Would it still be worth me trying this?

What did the garage inform you was the problem? If there is no leak and the system is charged they sent you away everything is Ok, Seems Odd?

They are a "basic" garage. Most of their business deals with tires and oil changes. He checked it said there was no leaks and that I would need to take to a different mechanic because it was beyond their scope.

Judy it's probably the low speed on the radiator fan, with a cold engine turn on the & see if the fan is spinning, if not . that's the problem. I had the same issue & it's common on pt's

need to have a set of gauges put back on and if the low side gauge goes to 0 at 2000 rpm's then the expansion valve is defective
