Why does my car suddenly quit running abruptly after about 2 minutes?

Asked by Ray Jul 31, 2017 at 07:50 PM about the 1996 Buick Century

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Without notice, this Buick Century just began losing power and quitting after
I bought it.It may run for 45 minutes in idle, without an issue,or it might just
crank and not start at all..OR it might run for a minute or 2.Sometimes it
sounds like its backfiring.I did notice I have a large rat nesting up under the
hood, and I think I found the chewed wires and repaired them, but it still
hasn't solved my issue.I need some easy fix type suggestions. I'm pulling my
hair out lol.Thanks.

Thats about what I figured.I was thinking that its down to the ignition control module or a MAF sensor,Crank sensor. I cleaned the maf and it seems ok.I cleaned the egr valve...I checked the fuel line(getting plenty fuel)..Checked the fuel pump relay. This car is starting to feel like a basket case. Ugggghh! I may just go ahead and take it to a mechanic and HOPE i dont get hurt too bad. This thing may be more than I can bite off.Was gonna be my daughters first car..so she and I are very disappointed.

Anyone know a good mechanic that is reasonable around Abilene Texas? I'm on a fixed income and need a minor miracle here.Thanks.
