Probably your fuel level sensor that is located in your fuel tank is faulty.

yes its located in the gas tank connected to the fuel pump u need to drop the tank and remove the fuel pump

if it goes back to empty, you let it get to low on fuel. the way i fixed mine on both buick park ave is drill a small hole just over the fuel guage and put a small paper clip in the hole and push the fuel hand clockwise with the key on and magic it is fixed.

45dave, you didn't think that solution through...all you need a good magnet and move it back around the dial
