What the crap!!!
I have a 95 F150, 4.9 I6. It acts like its starving for
gas. Replaced the fuel pump, fuel filter, TPS, Plugs
and Wires, Map sensor, ECM, distributor and cap,
and still having the same problem. Bought OBD1
code reader and i get a code 22: MAP or Baro Out
of Range and code 522: Not in Park or Neutral. I've
checked countless times for a vacuum leak
including spraying carburator cleaner everywher a
leak may be and nothing. I can crank the truck fine.
It runs and idles fine for about 3-5 minutes then
starts idling very rough and will even die if you
don't give it gas. If the truck sits long enough to
cool down, I can drive it a couple of miles down the
road and it will sputter and jerk, but eventually get
up to the speed I want and kind of drives okay. But
if I drive too long, it will act just like its out of gas
and will die no matter how much gas you give it. I
have to let it sit a few minutes and then it will drive
not even a mile before it does it again. I just repeat
sitting for a few minutes then start the truck and
drive. I put some injector clear in the tank as well
hoping it will clear up any gunk on the injectors.
Does anyone know of another option I could try
before I just set this truck up for target pactice.
Sounds like it could be the fuel regulator. If you want to check it you would need a fuel pressure gauge. Let me know what you think.
Maybe take a quick look at your intake manifold bolts for looseness to see if you have a vacuum leak. I had an '82 AMC inline six with an aluminum intake manifold that would warp and leak air when hot but was undetectable while cool or idling. This was a massive leak that would whistle while driving but impossible to detect while parked. Some time later I accidently saw a bolt sticking out an INCH !! Torque it gently while it's cold. I hope this helps.
