Truth-lose the 22"s,(sell them,on e-bay),,install the original rims,,and put 2500,on it..You may have problems,selling it there,but,State-side--That"s one popular car!!

Please!! tell me,,It"s a faux-ragtop,and you dint butcher it,and cut the original top-off,,as that would make this t-bird,,worthless!!!

Let's see a pic. I'm sure it's got a vinyl top and he's calling it a rag-top. But seriously a "RAGTOP" is a convertible where the top folds down behind the back seat area. There were a few dozen 77 thru 79 T-Birds made into convertibles by a coach builder in California but they just didn't look right and thus didn't really sell very well.

So a '79 T-bird can sell anywhere from $850 to $8500 but most sell right around $2500 on the average. If it's something special like a T-top version or exceptionally clean with no rust or dents and is a highly optioned car with power windows, locks, seats, etc and either silver, burgundy or black then you should get upwards of $5K. Only a super low mileage '78 Diamond Jubilee or '79 Heritage car will bring $7500-$8500 but even then it will be a hard sell, and like the first guy said, lose the donks. Kenny / MrBlueOval

American Sunroof Corporation (ASC) did the conversion for Ford, and they were sold through Ford dealers. The trouble is these cars had a fairly flexible frame, and the convertibles suffer considerable cowl shake. The other problem, as noted above, was that they used the standard T-Bird quarter, and that stub of a basket handle was very inelegant. It would have looked so much better had they used the Cougar XR-7 quarter, where the belt line continued straight through, then used the Thunderbird fender extensions and lights. Were I doing this conversion myself, I would also use the X reinforcement of a 63-64 Galaxy frame to strengthen the middle and then gusset the frame on the wheel arches. All in all, I bet I would add a good 300 pounds to the frame in the name of rigidity, but that weight would all be low in the car, which would increase stability as well.

Ron, I think that car is long gone. Look at the date of the original post. It's over 2-1/2 years old.
