19 tooth speedometer gearwhy it chew up the teeth?

19 tooth gear kept getting chew up, why and how to fix the problem ?

Short answer..it's nearly 60 years old. Plain worn out.

Is the transmission output shaft bouncing around? Could it be the wrong gear? How about the lubrication of the speedo cable and checking for kinks? Just some thoughts.
