Where is the adjusting bolt located for the distributor?
I have a 1987 Ford F250 4.9 in line six.
I need to advance the distributor since I tuned it but can't find the adjusting bolt...HELP
Should be right at the base of dist where it enters engine.
I though the same thing, but looking at them they all look like this, or very similar, with vacuum advance. But I can see this one has mechanical breaker points, a 1987 will not have those. Even my 1976 has no mechanical points. But it does have the bolt on the bottom plate, and I can't see WHAT hold these in place. Hmm.
Some motors have a u shaped piece that rides on and pinches the lip on dist shaft against the block when tightened. Loosen it and you can spin dist.
AH! You got it. You so smaaat
Lol. That is if it applies to his. From what I am finding I believe it might.
I am in the process of degreasing the engine so I can find this hold-down device. So far nothing. It's night and I will try again tomorrow..thanks!
Finished degreasing today and found the adjusting bolt. I had the right tool for the job (special 1/2" wrench) and I made the adjustment after a few tries. Thanks for all the advice...
Glad you got it. Drive safe
