1970 F-250

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I am so frustrated with how finicky the
truck is when trying to start. It turns over
(new, strong battery) but after about 2
minutes, it peters out and won't restart.
Gas in both tanks. Gas in auxiliary tank is 4
weeks old and sat. The guy who sold me
truck mentioned toggle on floor (to switch
tanks) didn't work. I have had some luck in
the past with switching the toggle from
main to off. Fuel gage doesn't register for
either tank. So frustrated. :(

Maybe the choke needs adjusting.

Gee it really sounds like the typical Ford fuel pump failure. When this happens do you know if the carb is dry of fuel? I put on a clear fuel filter between the fuel pump and the carb on my old Fords that way there was no doubt if it was or was not getting fuel. If it hasn't been updated with a new fuel pump that can handle this stuff they call fuel that could very well be your problem, and while your on the fuel system better replace all the rubber fuel lines with the new multi-fuel hoses as todays fuel will decompose the old style hoses from the inside and really mess things up when hose particles find their way into the fuel pump and carb.

fuel pump's on the motor right , mechanical ? check all the lines , the pump may be sucking air , it's 45 years old there may be a lot of upgrades needed
