If you have a carburetor I would suspect the choke is not opening like it should.

You need too find out if it is fuel or spark. When in failure spray some starter fluid down the intake if it fires it is fuel, it if doesn't it is spark. Most common failures on these are the ignition modules and the distributor pickup coil, followed closely by the fuel pump.
