can a charcoal canister be taken off and fixed
I have a 1989 ford f150 under the truck on drivers side is a black thing with 4 hoses on one
side and 2 on the other, not sure what it is. But i think its the charcoal canister. can i take
it off and fix it? it is squirting fuel
It's not being purged. There may be nothing wrong with the canister, just no vacuum to suck the fumes out, maybe a valve, and has collected liquid gas. The charcoal is supposed to soak up fumes from venting during fill up, but then purge from intake vacuum when engine is started. Make sure it has a vacuum source. Or it may even be just a vacuum storage canister without charcoal, that somehow got gas in it. All this, my point is the canister really has nothing to break except the case itself..it's the vacuum operation it that is faulty. And don't overfill the tank. First click, nozzle out. don't top off. AND BE CAREFUL OF FIRE WHEN YOU HAVE GASOLINE LEAKING. FIX BEFORE DRIVING!
