I use starter fluid on the area that I think got a vac leak, but you need to be careful, its flammable, and while spraying you will notice a change in the idle in the place where is a leak.

Not many DIY'ers have access to leak detector machines. You can build one with a paint can, a cheap cigar, and several feet of tubing. Check the net.
