need a little help please
I just acquired a 1985 F150 2WD, the problem I am having is that the engine is very hard to turn over, sounds like it wants to start but don't for at least 3-5 minutes. Also when I finally get her going she dies under load, mainly on hills and inclines, stop lights, engine sputters then dies repeatedly. Living in E. Tennessee this is a HUGE problem.
As I said I just got this beast....I don't have much info on it....from what I said maybe its a common problem/fix that someone can recognize and lend advice on.
I know its not much info to go by but any help would be appreciated.
302 8 cylinder
4 speed Ford AOD Tranny (i think)
From my understanding, it could be a weak spark from the plugs, weak charge, plugged air filter and/or fuel filter. or carb, or excess engine friction. Check the battery terminals for any damage (cracks, big pits, ext), check the wires, load test both battery and alternator, check the plugs and check the oil, check (and if needed, tune) the carb, and check the air filter and fuel filter.
Definitely try the fuel filter first, that can almost always be the problem.
Thank you much
get it running and grab and shake the main wiring harness. mine was doint the same thing. if it dies you have a short in one of the wires. if that doesnt work, replace your distributor control module
Adjust your points on the distributor that's what i had to do to my truck.
for a temporary fix for the stalling out, when you stop, drop it in neutral
